A Reason You Should Support the Quit Smoking Ear Campaign
Everybody knows that smoking has numerous harmful effects. Damage to
the ear is one of them. Damage to any organ is harmful but damage to
eyes and ears is something which we cannot live without. You would be
dead without these two sensory organs, though not literally. Still,
life without the ability to see and hear would not be worth living.
Sure, there are blind and deaf in this world. But you would prefer not
to fall in that category, especially since you know that you can
control it by quit smoking. Would you not!
Hearing Loss - How I Hear With My Hearing Aids
Have you heard some of the horror stories about wearing hearing aids. I hope that after reading this article, you will not be afraid. I was born with a severe hearing loss and started wearing one behind-the-ear hearing aid when I started Grade 5. I did so well that my parents got me a second hearing aid before starting Grade 6. Growing up with a hearing loss, I was painfully shy and very self-conscious of not hearing as well as my parents or friends. At that time, people either spoke to me funny by over-articulating their words. The other thing people did when I was younger; they ignored me and spoke to my parents about me. I became invisible to the family and friends that I grew up around.
Hearing Loss - What Happens During A Hearing Test
If you think you have a hearing loss, consult your doctor who will determine firstly if the hearing loss can be remedied i.e. ear wax, infection, etc. You could be referred to an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist if a medically treatable cause for the hearing loss is determined. If all is well with your ears with no medical reason for your hearing loss, you will be referred for a hearing test. A thorough evaluation by an audiologist or hearing aid provider is important to determine the type and degree of hearing loss or what hearing aid options may be available.
