Visualization - How I Used It To Kick A 40 Year Nail Biting Habit

Most people try to force a vision. Sorry that won’t work. Visualization is a skill that you have to develop over time. I know that people watched the secret and one of the main things was to visualize what you want. What they didn’t tell you is that this may take some time to develop. Visualization is a skill like anything else. Also it is an intangible skill. You can’t touch, taste, feel it, grab it like a tool, it just is.

What happens when you don’t exercise your muscles? They start to deteriorate. The same is with visualization if you don’t practice it starts to atrophy. I use to not believe too much in visualization, even though I had evidence in my own life that it works. In retrospect, there are several ingredients that must work together, in order to manifest what you want. I felt by giving you the following examples, you will start to see that visualization is it a practiced skill.

One day I was looking at my nails. No big deal, I have been biting my nails for over 40 years. Did I know why I bite my nails? No, not right away, but I realized I needed to stop biting them. I knew that I would be meeting important people and it would be rather embarrassing to shake hands with ragged nails. I also remembered that Tony Robbins had the same problem, although I did not recall how he resolved it. I started to look at my hands and looked at my nails; then I started to create a picture of my nails the way I would like to see them. I did add (since I do play guitar) that my nails were picking strings on a beautiful Spanish guitar. That picture made me smile. I started feeling happy, imagining what they would look like when people looked at my hands.

Basically I started to get emotionally involved with that picture. Right to this day every time I look at my nails I smile. Why? It makes me feel happy that I have nails again and that they look great. This visualization exercise took about 2 minutes and that was 4 months ago, I have not bit my nails since. If I want to get happy, I just look at my nails! I immediately think, hey pretty cool, alright, yeah I can have this. Of course this was result I was looking for. In retrospect I did figure out why I bit my nails. My father since I can remember always bit his nails. Paradigms are powerful.

You might think that if I knew where I picked up this habit that it will resolve almost immediately. That is not the truth. If I visualize I would have to fix my fathers nails, and that would not address my habit. It gives me the source but it doesn’t give me the solution. You see it is not really important to know why you do something or where you picked up the habit, what is important is what you want, what you want to see. The result that you are looking for is in your head and so you must change what is, to what you want it to be. Now don’t get me wrong, you must be clear as to the picture, be emotionally involved with it and hold that image in your mind’s eye. It could take 2 minutes or it could take days.

Visualization is practiced discipline. Here is an exercise that you can practice with. Fix your attention on an object for a couple of minutes. Shut your eyes and see how long that image holds. If you are like me, it took a fraction of a second to lose it. Then open your eyes and fix your attention on the object again. Close your eyes and see if it holds a bit longer. Do this daily until you can actually manipulate the object in your mind’s eye. I did this with a small candle holder, until I can move it in my mind’s eye horizontally, vertically and having it spin and stop. This does take concentration.

A major point is not to force it. Nothing happens when you force it. Here are some more additional things to remember about visualization. The Law of Cause and Effect, for every action there is an equal and “opposite” reaction. This applies to visualization the action is Vision the opposite is Non Vision. You should remember that Universal Laws always work together on some level. Emerson called the Law of Cause and Effect, the Law of Laws I can see the reason why.
It does have a part in everything that you do even visualization.

You want to use the Law of Attraction to bring to you the things that you want. Visualization is one of the key tools, but you must use it effectively. When you have the vision and you get the non vision, it is the emotional involvement that makes the selection, which then moves you into attraction.

The biggest problem is the adding of force. Force cancels out your equation or formula for success. Don’t ask me why because I don’t know for sure. I just know that if you add force you negate the formula. Nature doesn’t force anything to grow and maybe that is the reason.

The other challenge is what you can get emotionally involved with. Let us say you want to be wealthy, picturing money make not be the thing that you can get excited about since it isn’t resonating with you. Maybe there is a better representation, like the house of your dreams. You can look at 10 to 20 pictures of homes but they don’t get you excited. Maybe you have to start by finding out what does represent wealth to you? It could be a long walk in closed with 100 Armani Suits? If it doesn’t put a smile on your face keep looking. Maybe you might sketch out the dream house yourself and color it in.

To review, we must practice visualization to increase that skill. Emotional involvement the key and we need to find what turns us on. The Law of Cause and Effect and the Law of Attraction are intermixed. We know that what makes the selection, for what we want to attract is our emotions, how we feel and what it represents to us. Doing something once or twice will not do, you must practice daily, start with small things and work your way up. As you gain more experience, your confidence, and level of attraction will improve proportionately.
