Most people assume breeding dogs is an easy task, but they would be proven wrong if they tried. Here are some important points to take into consideration if you’re planning on breeding dogs.
Often I get to talk to people that attempted to breed their dog, only to find out that they struggled and ended up failing with it. I wanted to share these important points about dog breeding that should help increase your successes with it.
- Find a reputable stud dog owner: This is very important. You’d be surprised how many deadbeats think they can just take any dog and stud it out. It is very important to use a register kennel. This gives accountability to its members. As well, you’ll also want to get a report from the owner on the health of the dog. You do not want the stud dog having a disease, cancer of STDs.
- Have your dogs mate at the stud dogs place: This is very important. For some reason most people think the stud dog should come to your place for the mating session and this couldn’t be further from the truth. The fact is that the stud dog and your dog will feel much more comfortable to mate in the stud dogs environment.
- After the puppies have been born , make sure they get all the shots the vet recommends. This is important for the entire litter. You do not want to end up with sick dogs that die.
