What is a Retirement Community?
According to Wikipedia – “A retirement community, or active adult community, is a very broad, generic term that covers many variation of housing for retirees and seniors – especially designed or geared for people who no longer work, or restricted to those over a certain age”.
Retirement communities are basically special groups of retired people, who have a common interest or passion and leisure to pursue it together. They do not have to earn a salary or any specific commitments. Though these communities always prefer a place far away from busy life and city center to live in, but they are not same as retirement homes. These communities are specially built by the like-minded senior citizens, who enjoy common passion and want to live life to the fullest.
Retire communities are specially designed
Retirement is a special time of life. People generally do not want to be bothered with lots of worries and responsibilities. Children are grown up. Most of the life’s goals are achieved. So they crave for the peace of mind and healthy recreational facilities and to live happily. Retirement community caters to these specific needs. These communities are specially designed for specific purposes like golf, tennis, swimming, fishing or other social and sports activities.
These communities could be just ‘active’ i.e., will take care of the activities or ‘supportive and active’ , which other than activities will provide supportive help, like healthcare and residential facilities. These communities generally have experts to organize the fun activities and to keep everybody engaged.
Advantages of Retirement communities
The biggest benefit of retirement communities is to get like minded companions and comrades to live with and pursue life’s goals and happiness together. It provides the warmth and sustenance most desired at this point of life.
Different communities provide different activities. Some enthuse the inmates to travel together. Some provides medical facilities. Special retirement communities even help retirees having incurable disease like Alzheimer’s.
Most of the communities enjoy tax benefits and pay much lower taxes.
Some communities provide rental and other low taxed-amenities, keeping in mind that after retirement, people generally earn lesser.
Internet provides lots of information on these communities. One of the biggest site which provides all information is ‘Retire Net’ (www.retirenet.com). The post retirement period is the one where the person is in need of companionship and it is at this stage that a person find itself lonely.
