Your interview thank you influences your chances for getting a place in the final list of successful candidates to a considerable extent. Sending a thank you letter after the interview reinforces your interest for joining the organization and the post, and the board gives due weight to this at the time of making the final selection. Many organizations even reject the candidature of otherwise suitable candidates if thank you letters after the interview are not received from them in a short time.
What is this thank you letter? It’s a letter, written to the interview board member or members, thanking them for their time to interview you and discuss with you about your personal achievements, career aspirations and various possibilities relating to the post being filled up. It is also another opportunity for you to restate your credentials and justify that you are the fittest candidate for the post. Through this letter, you appreciate any personal trait of any interviewer that you might have liked and express your gratitude for some suggestions or views that he/she might have given you to further your career. In fact, this is your final opportunity to establish a grand rapport with the board member/s and stay significantly ahead in the race of selection.
There is some element of urgency about this letter. You must write and post this on the day of the interview itself or latest by the next day. You can courier, fax, hand-deliver or even e-mail the letter. Since, this is substantially related to your selection for the post, please ensure that it gets delivered to the addressee.
Initially, you may be bit confused about how to start the letter and proceed with it. To get some idea, you can consult some job interview/career sites/books. Most of them have sample thank you letters. Just get an idea of the style, but write your own letter with an innovative approach. And, before posting it, don’t forget to proofread it to make sure your letter does not contain bad grammar, spelling errors and typos. Rest is Good Luck!
