People used to write on diaries for themselves only. They took extreme measures to keep their diaries private. It was usual practice then to put a lock on a diary and hide it in the most unusual places. If someone else got access to it, it almost always followed that all hell would break loose.

Things have changed a lot since then. Nowadays, online dairies, more popularly known as web logs or blogs for short, have taken over the hardbound journals. But the difference doesn’t stop there. The real change lies on the fact that people now want their blogs to be read by everyone else. After all, the benefits of being a popular blogger are hard to resist–internet fame and more importantly, money.

If you wish to be a popular blogger, you need to excel in blogging. Here are five ways to do so:

1.) Write about what you know and love best. Blogging is about deriving joy from expressing yourself and sharing what you know. Earning from it is secondary, and at times, optional. If you want an audience, exude sincerity in what you write.

2.) Make your blog interactive. Respond to comments left by readers as much as you can so they will feel that you’re accessible. If you do this, you can establish an easy kind of rapport that makes your readers feel completely comfortable with you.

3.) Keep your blog updated regularly. Give your loyal readers a reason to come back to your blog. If you don’t make consistent updates, people might get tired dropping by to see if you have anything new to give them.

4.) Be entertaining and informative at the same time. Whatever your topic may be, people want to leave your blog feeling good about how they just spent their time.

5.) Write in separate blocks with white spaces in between. One huge block of text is hard to read and doesn’t look very pleasing to the eyes.
