Here’s the dictionary definition of a goal: The end toward which effort is directed.
Here’s my definition of a goal: A burning desire born out of necessity or longing that will not be derailed or denied.
What’s your definition of a goal?
Your goal, when combined with passion, purpose and persistence is a powerful financial success tool.
Do you have a financial dream or goal born out of necessity or longing? Have you written it down on paper? Have you thought about the excitement and self-satisfaction of achieving that goal?
I recently read the success story of Linda Torres-Winter and was impressed with her vision and purpose. See if you agree. Linda Torres-Winters lived with her migrant parents and six siblings in one big room. She worked the tomato fields along side her family starting at age six. At 16 her father became disabled and she left school to help support the family.
Holding two jobs she still managed to get her high school equivalencey diploma at age 17 and went on to college. Linda decided to begin her own business to help the family financially and to also honor her Hispanic heritage. She remembered her mother made the best salsa ever!
What drove her to become financially independent? A burning desire born out of necessity. In her story, Linda mentions how she always wanted to do something for her family and to make a difference.
To make a long story short, today her salsa mix is in over 500 grocery stores in 8 states, she has her own television program, writes a food column and is able to help other women and children strive for their goals.
What lesson can Linda Torres-Winters teach all of us? It doesn’t matter where you begin in life because if your desire for financial independence is strong enough, you can make goals reality.
Here are a few suggestions to help get you started:
- Take a few minutes and write out the answer to this question: How would achieving your financial goal bring greater peace of mind, self-satisfaction and financial independence?
- What steps can you take today to begin making your financial goal a reality?
- Do you have a financial mentor to call for advice and support?
- Do you have the emotional and financial support of your loved ones? If not, what can you do to gain their support?
- Do you have a clear picture of what it’s going take emotionally, physically and financially to make your goal reality? Are you willing to do what it takes?
- Is your goal a burning desire? Is it powerful enough to make you unstoppable?
- Have you set up a support network of like-minded women who have the burning desire to go for their financial goals?
You can read Linda Torres-Winters’ success story at the U. S. Small Business Administration’s web site. All of us will be waiting to read your success story very soon.
